Power theft crackdown in N’ganj, six fined

The district administration and Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) conducted a late-night drive in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, to curb electricity theft and illegal connections.

During the operation, six owners of auto-rickshaw garages were fined a total of Tk 4 lakh for using excessive electrical loads, stealing electricity and maintaining illegal connections. The electricity supply to one garage was also disconnected.

The drive was conducted from 9pm to 1:30am on Sunday night under the leadership of Executive Magistrate Md Tarif Al Tawhid of the district administration.

After the drive, Executive Magistrate Md Tarif Al Tawhid said the operation was carried out under Section 38 of the Electricity Act. He added that strict drives against electricity theft would continue in the future.

According to sources, a fine of Tk 1 lakh was imposed on the auto-rickshaw garage of Jasim Uddin in the CI Khola area for using an excessive electrical load. An adjacent garage was also found to have an illegal connection without a meter, and its electricity supply was disconnected.

In Batanpara, garage owner Raja was fined Tk 1 lakh for similar violations. Another garage owned by Mujibur Rahman was fined Tk 50,000 after evidence of electricity theft and excessive load use was found.

In the Chowdhurybari area of Godnail, three auto-rickshaw garages owned by Shakil were fined a total of Tk 1.5 lakh for using excessive electrical loads.

DPDC Siddhirganj (NOCS) Executive Engineer Md Masudur Rahman, Assistant Engineer Md Rahul, Sub-Assistant Engineers Md Sanowar Hossain, Md Jahangir Alam and Md Oliullah, along with members of law enforcement agencies, were present during the operation.
