630 cartons cigarettes seized at Ctg airport
Customs authorities at Shah Amanat International Airport seized cigarettes worth approximately Tk 1.26 million from the baggage of two passengers late Tuesday night. Five smartphones were also recovered during the campaign.
Passengers arrived in Chattogram at around 10:15 PM on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight (BG-128).
Upon searching their luggage, officials discovered 630 cartons of cigarettes.
The individuals were identified as Mohammad Arafat and Mohammad Raihan.
Acting on confidential information, members of the airport customs department and customs intelligence conducted an operation and inspected the passengers’ baggage, leading to the recovery of the contraband items.
Among the seized electronics, one iPhone was valued at Tk 30,000, while four Samsung smartphones were estimated to be worth Tk 60,000 in total.
Airport Public Relations Officer Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil said the confiscated goods were seized under a detention memo and placed in the custody of Chattogram Customs House.
The two passengers were later released after receiving verbal warnings from customs officials.
