Bumper boro harvest expected in Chitalmari Upazila

Farmers are expecting a bumper harvest of Boro paddy this year due to favorable weather conditions, proper care in the fields, and the timely application of fertilizers, irrigation, and pesticides.

According to the Upazila Agriculture Department, the target for Boro paddy cultivation in Chitalmari Upazila under Bagerhat district this season was set at 12,123 hectares.

Exceeding the target, the cultivated area has reached 12,155 hectares, which is 32 hectares more than the initial goal.

Among the cultivated land, 12,117 hectares are hybrid varieties and 38 hectares are Ufshi varieties.

Farmer Md. Panna Munshi of Aruaborni village in the upazila said there is a strong possibility of a bumper harvest this year.

“When I go near the paddy fields, my heart fills with joy. I pray that there will be no natural disasters,” he said.

Another farmer, Ahiduzzaman Daru, said that most of the paddy fields are now in their final growing stage, and harvesting will begin within a few days.

“The fields as far as the eye can see are covered with green paddy leaves. We hope the golden crop will be harvested without any disaster,” he added.

Upazila Agriculture Officer (Agriculturist) Sifat-al-Maruf said that Boro paddy is growing well under close supervision and proper care.

He added that if there are no natural disasters and the harvest is completed successfully, a record number of farmers in the upazila will benefit financially this year.
