SMP announces rewards for information against muggers

Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) has announced rewards for individuals who provide information on muggers and extortionists, amid a recent rise in mugging incidents in Sylhet and growing criticism over the failure to arrest the perpetrators.

The announcement was made yesterday evening through a post on the police force’s official Facebook page.

According to the statement, SMP Commissioner Abdul Kuddus Chowdhury has declared a “zero tolerance” policy against muggers and extortionists.

Alongside ongoing police operations, the initiative aims to encourage public participation in crime prevention by offering rewards to informants.

Speaking on the matter, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Md Monjurul Alam said the police always work in coordination with the public, and this initiative is intended to further strengthen that collaboration.

Police said that if any criminal is arrested based on information provided by citizens, the informants will be rewarded.

Authorities also assured that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
