Probe body formed for Savar fire incident

A four-member probe body was formed to inquest the fire incident at a garment factory in Ashulia area of Savar that claimed lives of eight people.

Savar Fire Service and Civil Defence formed the committee on Monday.

Eight people were killed and 35 others injured when a fire broke out in front of Preeti Composite factory in Jamgara of Ashulia around 6:45 pm on Sunday.

The fire broke out as a gas cylinder exploded with a big bang while being unloaded from a covered van.
The injured were taken to different hospitals.

The firefighters recovered six bodies from the spot on Sunday night while Joynab Begum, 55, who was standing in front of tailoring shop, died on the spot when a gas cylinder fell on her during the explosion, said Tariqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Ashulia Police Station.

Another victim identified as Nazrul Islam, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on Monday, said police.

Four vehicles were damaged during the fire.

Meanwhile, 26 victims out of 35 were taken to local hospitals while six were admitted to different hospitals and five others are undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
