Measles rises in Sylhet, child dies at Osmani Medical

A two-month-old child died of measles on Monday (April 6), marking the first confirmed death from the disease in the Sylhet region.

Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, six new cases of measles and rubella were confirmed through laboratory tests in the Sylhet division. During the same period, 44 suspected patients were admitted to various hospitals.

Currently, 101 suspected patients with measles symptoms are receiving treatment at different hospitals across the division. Of these, the highest number-62 patients-are admitted to Shahid Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital.

So far, 37 measles cases have been confirmed in the division.

One child died while undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Brigadier General Umar Rashed Munir, director of the hospital, said the child had been admitted two days ago with measles and cardiac complications and was kept under observation in the intensive care unit (ICU).
In response to the situation, an isolation unit for measles patients has been established at Osmani Medical College Hospital. Director Umar Rashed confirmed that the 10-bed unit began operations on Sunday.
