Cantonment police chief withdrawn
Dhaka’s Cantonment Police chief Rakibul Hasan has been withdrawn from his post following the circulation of a controversial audio recording on social media.
An order signed by Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed on Thursday said Hasan had been attached to DMP Headquarters for “administrative reasons.”
The audio clip, circulated under Hasan’s name, features a person identifying himself as the police chief making critical comments about the government, administration, army and police.
In the recording, the speaker reportedly says that police on the streets are weak and refers to a possible return of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in December. The recording also contains claims about senior police officials’ political leanings and alleged bribery in police postings.
However, it has not been independently confirmed that the voice in the recording belongs to Rakibul Hasan.
A senior DMP official told media that the matter is currently being investigated.
The withdrawal comes as the audio clip continues to circulate widely on social media, drawing attention to the remarks attributed to the Cantonment police chief.
