National University VC meets President

National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ASM Amanullah briefed President and Chancellor Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on the university’s education and administrative reforms during a courtesy call at Bangabhaban on Sunday.

A National University delegation led by the vice-chancellor met the president on September 20, according to a press release.

During the meeting, Professor Dr ASM Amanullah presented an overview of the university’s education, research and academic activities and outlined initiatives taken over the past two years since assuming office to bring changes to its academic and administrative operations.

He briefed the president on plans to establish district-based performing arts colleges and a college for students with disabilities.

The initiatives also include publishing examination results within the shortest possible time, placing greater emphasis on English and ICT education, expanding teacher training programmes nationwide and promoting technical and vocational education.

The vice-chancellor also highlighted efforts to work jointly with various domestic and international institutions and organisations.

He briefed the president on measures taken to improve the quality of education at colleges in marginal areas of the country.

Amanullah also outlined reforms to curricula and syllabuses aimed at making the education system more modern, employment-oriented and responsive to contemporary needs.

The delegation also informed the president about National University’s activities to implement various government decisions and initiatives.

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir appreciated the initiatives and expressed hope that, as chancellor, he would provide all necessary support to advance the university’s education reforms and development activities.
