BCB extends Miraz, Litton’s captaincy terms

Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Litton Das’s captaincy terms have been extended.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to keep Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the captain of the Bangladesh ODI team until 2027.

Similarly, Litton Das will also lead the Bangladesh T20I team until the 2028 World Cup.

The announcement was made after a board meeting of BCB was held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Saturday.

Miraz, who was given the captaincy on a one-year contract in June last year, has been able to satisfy the BCB by winning two consecutive home series against the West Indies and Pakistan.

That is why the BCB has decided to keep him in charge for the long term.

BCB Cricket Operations Committee Chairman Nazmul Abedeen Fahim said to a local website, “Our T20I captain’s term ends after the 2026 T20 World Cup.

So, the current captain and vice-captain are being kept until the 2028 World Cup.

At the same time, the ODI captain’s term is also coming to an end. We think it is very important to give the captains an opportunity to work uninterrupted and implement long-term plans.”

Meanwhile, to strengthen the coaching staff, the BCB has appointed former left-arm spinner Mohammad Rafique as a spin bowling consultant on a one-year contract.

In addition, the BCB has approved a new selection panel led by former captain Habibul Bashar Sumon.

The BCB has also planned to re-introduce award nights for players, has created scholarship opportunities for sports journalists and has decided to publish a sports journal every three months.
