3 dead, 15 injured in Sirajganj road crash

At least three people were killed and 15 others injured when a passenger bus lost control after a tyre burst and crashed into an island divider and an overbridge in Kamarkhanda upazila of Sirajganj.

The accident took place around 11:00am in the Nalka area on the western side of the Jamuna Bridge.
The deceased were identified as bus driver Md Jahangir Alam (51), son of Ayes Uddin of Goail village under Shahjahanpur upazila in Bogura; Rocket, the bus helper and resident of Shrirampur village under Akkelpur upazila in Joypurhat; and Rakhi Begum (35), wife of Monirul Islam of Sameshpur village under Belkuchi upazila in Sirajganj.

Jamuna Bridge West Police Station Officer-in-Charge Amirul Islam said the bus of “Bushra Paribahan” was travelling to Mymensingh from Bogura when one of its tyres suddenly burst.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, which struck the island divider and became trapped near the overbridge, he said.

He added that the driver and helper died on the spot, while another injured passenger died on the way to hospital.

At least 15 injured passengers were rescued and taken to different hospitals for treatment. Police are working to recover the accident-hit bus.
