Torch relay for 6th Asian Beach Games held in Sanya
The torch relay for the 6th Asian Beach Games was held in Sanya, south China’s Hainan Province, on Sunday, with 74 torchbearers carrying the flame along a 10.5-kilometer route linking scenic spots along Sanya Bay.
The one-day relay featured a flame-collection ceremony, a launching ceremony and a flame-lighting ceremony.
Chang Yani, Olympic champion and the first torchbearer, said running with the torch on the beach alongside the sea was a unique experience that heightened her anticipation for the upcoming Games.
Qi Guangpu, a Winter Olympic champion and the final torchbearer, said it was his first time participating in a torch relay despite competing in multiple Olympics.
He expressed excitement and honor at carrying the flame, adding that he was particularly looking forward to the beach wrestling events and hopes athletes will experience Sanya’s unique charm.
The 6th Asian Beach Games will be held in Sanya from April 22 to 30, featuring 14 sports, 15 disciplines and 62 events.
