Asif celebrates Shakib’s birthday

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Asif Akbar celebrated Shakib’s birthday in London, cutting a cake in his honour.

A video circulating on social media shows Asif Akbar addressing Shakib as “Happy Birthday, Nawab” while the two feed each other cake.

Asif Akbar had flown to London a day before the celebration.

Since 5 August 2024, Shakib has been away from Bangladesh cricket due to his political affiliations.

He had hoped to play his final match in front of local fans upon returning, but that opportunity did not materialise.

There is renewed speculation about his return, with the upcoming series against New Zealand increasing the likelihood of his comeback, although an exact date remains uncertain.

Recently, BCB director Asif Akbar announced that steps are being taken to reintegrate Shakib into the national team.

On 4 March, he stated, “Necessary measures have been taken from our side regarding Shakib Al Hasan.

The matter is currently with the ministry, and they are working on it. Meanwhile, the BCB’s legal team is actively working to resolve Shakib’s legal matters promptly.”
