BEZA signs land lease deal with MEP group for electric goods plant

The Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (Beza) has signed a land lease agreement with MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park Limited to establish a modern electrical products manufacturing facility at the National Special Economic Zone (NSEZ) in Mirsarai, Chattogram.
MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park Limited is a concern of MEP Group, established in 1974. The group said it has approximately 2,000 corporate clients and a distribution network of more than 1,000 outlets across the country.
MEP Group’s businesses include Mohammadi Electric Wire & Multi Products (MEP) Ltd, MEP Fan Ltd, MEP Energy Saving Lamps Industries Ltd, MEP Polymer Industries Ltd, Chaklader Shipping Lines Ltd, MEP Light Industries Ltd, MEP Printing and Packaging Industries, and MEP Ago Limited, among others. The group said it markets a range of electrical and electronic products, including switch-sockets, cables (domestic, HT, and LT), compact fluorescent lamps and energy-saving lamps, LED lights, fans, and PVC pipes.
Under the plan, the company will establish an electrical products manufacturing cluster on approximately 10 acres of land at the NSEZ, with an investment of about Tk200 crore, entirely financed by local investment.
The factory will produce electrical wires, switch-sockets, fans, LED lights, circuit breakers, and other electrical and electronic products. The group also said it aims to expand business in both domestic and international markets by leveraging its existing experience.
