Moulvibazar Correspondent :
The 52nd Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovers a large quantity of high explosives and illegal weapons from the Barlikha border area in Moulvibazar district. The recovered items include 24 Powergel-9 high explosives, 23 detonators, 15 meters of detonator cord, and 3 pipe guns.
Lt. Colonel Md. Ataur Rahman, Commander of the 52nd BGB, told a press conference on Tuesday, February 3, that based on secret intelligence, a special operation was conducted late at night in the New Pallathal BOP area of Barlikha Upazila.
The operation was coordinated from the Barlikha Upazila election base camp and involved separate patrol teams.
During the operation, the miscreants, sensing the presence of the BGB, fled into the dense border forests under the cover of darkness. Subsequently, the high explosives and weapons, left unattended, were recovered from the Taradarm area within the South Shahbazpur Union along the border.
The BGB stated that the smuggling of these explosives and weapons ahead of the elections is a clear attempt to undermine national security and disrupt the peaceful election process.
Authorities have said that, in addition to taking immediate legal action, investigation activities are ongoing in coordination with relevant intelligence agencies and law enforcement bodies.
