Dr. M Moinul Islam appointed BAEC Chairman

Renowned nuclear scientist Dr. M Moinul Islam has been appointed Chairman (routine charge) of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) through an office order issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology on Sunday.

Prior to this, he was appointed as a BAEC Member (Physical Sciences) via a separate order. Before assuming the chairmanship, Dr. Islam served as Director of the Planning and Development Division at the commission’s head office.

Hailing from a respectable Muslim family in South Halishahar, Chattogram, Dr. Islam joined BAEC on April 16, 1995, as a Scientific Officer at the Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (INST) under the Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE) in Savar. His focus was on health physics and radioactive waste management. An alumnus of Chattogram University, he earned first-class BSc (Hons) and MSc degrees in Physics. He later obtained a PhD in Physics and Technology of Nuclear Reactors from the University of Birmingham, UK, and another PhD in Physics and Radioactive Waste Management from the University of Warwick, UK.
