DU demands justice for Hadi

DU Correspondent :

A seminar demanding justice for the killing of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi was held at the University of Dhaka on Saturday.

Speakers described the murder not merely as an individual crime, but as a reflection of state failure, a culture of impunity, and authoritarian power structures.

The seminar, titled “The Killing of Shaheed Osman Hadi: Justice, State Crisis and Hegemonic Structures,” was organised by Citizen Initiative and the Center for Governance and Civilization Studies (CGCS) at the R. C. Majumdar Auditorium.

Speakers emphasised that ensuring justice for Hadi is essential for Bangladesh’s democratic transition. Hadi’s teacher and Bangladesh Open University Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Dil Roushan Jinnat Ara Nazneen said the continued delay in justice clearly exposes administrative failure.

Hadi’s elder brother Omar Hadi rejected any form of financial assistance for the family and urged people to pray for Hadi and continue demanding justice for his killers. Journalist and PIB Director General Faruk Wasif said Hadi’s rise was rooted in the July uprising and described his legacy as both political and spiritual.

Writer Rezwanul Karim Rony stressed that Hadi’s ideals must be institutionalised rather than politically exploited.
