Sports Reporter :

Rituparna Chakma’s Rajshahi Stars overcame a major obstacle on their way to becoming champions by defeating Farashganj Sporting Club 1-0 in the crucial match of the Women’s Football Leauge (WFL) at the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Sipahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium in city’s Kamalapur on Saturday.

The only goal scored by Rajshahi’s Alpi Akter in the first half was the decisive factor in a fiercely contested match. Maria Manda, Shamsunnahar jr, Monika and Tahura Khatun suffered their first defeat in the league.

This was the seventh match between the two teams. Rajshahi Stars are on top with 21 points. Bangladesh Army, which has played one more match, also has 21 points.

And Farashganj is in third place with 18 points. Rajshahi still has three matches left in the league. Their next opponents are Siraj Smriti Sangsad, Sadyapuskarini and Bangladesh Army.

Among them, Army is the only big test; the remaining two matches are relatively easy.

In the day’s match, Unnoti Khatun slammed a brilliant hat-trick as Bangladesh Army registered an overwhelming 9-0 win over thrash Suddopuskorini Jubo Sporting Club.

Unnoti Khatun scored hat-trick with four goals in the 45, 65 and 79 minutes and Munia Akter Munu struck twice in 67 and 81 minutes.

Joynob Bibi Rita and Shika Akter supported them with one goal each in 12 and 77 minute after they took a lead through a suicidal goal scored by Suddopuskorini’s Ruma Akter in 9th minute.

With this win Army moved up second position in the league table with 21 points from eight matches while Suddopuskorini remained with their previous collection of 12 points playing the same number of matches.
