Staff Reporter :

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to make his first trip outside Dhaka following his homecoming, beginning with a visit to Bogura on 11 January. This will mark his return to his home district after 19 years, as his last visit to Bogura was on 24 December 2006, according to party sources.

Sources at the BNP’s Gulshan office said Tarique shared his plan to visit Bogura on Sunday night during a discussion with party leaders at the National Press Club.

The visit is expected to be finalised at a BNP Standing Committee meeting scheduled for tonight, after which the detailed itinerary may be officially announced, the sources added.

According to sources, Tarique will arrive in Bogura on the evening of 11 January and stay overnight at a hotel. At 10:00 am on 12 January, he will participate in a prayer programme organised by the district BNP at Altafunnessa Playground, seeking forgiveness for the departed soul of his mother, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

Bogura Sadar Upazila BNP President Maftun Ahmed Khan Rubel told the media that after the prayer programme, Tarique will tour key areas of the city, including Satmatha, Tinmatha, and Matidali, before heading to Mahasthan to pay respects at the shrine of Hazrat Shah Sultan Balkhi Mahisawar (R).

He will then travel to Rangpur, where he is scheduled to visit the grave of July Uprising martyr Abu Sayed.
