Prime Bank secures 20m OeEB loan to expand MSME financing

Prime Bank PLC has signed a €20 million term loan agreement with OeEB, the Development Bank of Austria, to expand access to finance for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Bangladesh.
Under the agreement, the financing will be on-lent to eligible MSMEs to support business growth, expansion, investment and working capital requirements, strengthening Prime Bank’s capacity to provide financing to enterprises that contribute to employment, entrepreneurship and economic activity across the country, according to the press release.
Prime Bank Chief Executive Officer Faisal Rahman, Deputy Managing Director Shams Abdullah Muhaimin and OeEB Senior Investment Officer Ilka Vogel attended the signing ceremony at Prime Bank’s head office in Dhaka.
The financing reflects the shared focus of Prime Bank and OeEB on promoting sustainable economic development and improving access to finance for Bangladesh’s MSME sector.
OeEB, Austria’s development bank, provides financing for sustainable investments in developing countries and emerging markets.
OeEB said small and medium enterprises play an important role in employment and economic development in Bangladesh but often face limited access to long-term financing.
Through the €20 million facility, OeEB aims to support the expansion of Prime Bank’s MSME lending portfolio and improve access to capital for businesses.
Prime Bank has a longstanding track record of supporting businesses of different sizes through conventional and Islamic banking solutions.
The bank said it continues to focus on expanding responsible and inclusive access to finance for MSMEs while supporting the sustainable growth of Bangladesh’s private sector.
The new facility is expected to further strengthen Prime Bank’s capacity to meet the evolving financing requirements of MSMEs and contribute to sustainable private-sector development in Bangladesh.
