Poacher caught with venison

A poacher was arrested by the forest guards with two and a half maunds of deer meat (venison) while smuggling deer meat from the Sundarbans early Sunday morning. The arrested poacher has been sentenced to suffer rigorous imprisonment for one year in a mobile court.

According to forest department sources, forest guards led by Forester Md. Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Gyanpara Special Patrol Outpost of Sharankhola Range unde the Eastern Sundarbans Forest Division, conducted a raid in Charduani Bazar area at around 3-30 am on Sunday based on a secret tip-off and arrested deer poacher Liton Howlader (49).

At that time, forest guards seized 102 kg of deer meat filled in sacks from him. The arrested poacher is the son of Rustom Howlader of Kathaltoli village of Patharghata Upazila. He was hunting deer in the Sundarbans and carrying the meat in two sacks, the forest guards said. Rana Deb, the Sharankhola Range Officer (ACF) of the Eastern Sundarbans Forest Division told, Patharghata Upazila Magistrate Sheikh Mohammad Panir sentenced the poacher who was arrested along with deer meat in the Charduani Bazar area to suffer RI (rigorous imprisonment) for one yeat and to pay a fine of Tk. 50,000 through a mobile court. The ACF said, the seized deer meat was buried in the ground with kerosene.
