Sorrow start for Bangladesh in FIFA ASEAN Cup

After falling behind by two goals due to a disjointed performance in the first half, Bangladesh football team created several scoring opportunities in the second half but failed to find the net due to a lack of clinical finishing. The result was a heavy defeat against Malaysia football team.

The Bangladesh football team began their FIFA ASEAN Cup campaign with a 3-0 loss to Malaysia football team at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Bangladesh faced Malaysia on Friday in their opening match of the FIFA ASEAN Cup group stage.

From the very biginning, Malaysia played organized and aggressive football, whereas Bangladesh appeared completely disorganized.

In the fourth minute, a Malaysian attacker fired a shot towards the goal from a corner kick, but goalkeeper Mehedi Hasan Srabon managed to tip it wide just in time.

Malaysian attackers launched wave after wave of attacks, keeping the Bangladesh side busy defending; they barely had a chance to build their own attacks. The goal could not be kept intact beyond the 18th minute.

Malaysian forward Arif Aiman received a pass from midfield and entered the penalty box.

Experienced Bangladesh defender Shakil Ahad Topu tried but failed to stop him, and the goalkeeper was also unable to intervene. Arif Aiman gave his team the lead with a deft touch.

In the 38th minute, Bangladesh conceded another goal due to an error by Shakil Ahad Topu.

A misplaced pass by Topu fell to Malaysia’s star player, Arif Aiman, who capitalized on the opportunity without hesitation. The first half ended with a 2-0 scoreline.

Trailing by two goals, Bangladesh attempted to attack more in the second half but failed to convert those into goals. Instead, they conceded another goal in the 52nd minute.

Brazilian-born Malaysian forward Bergson Gustavo received a ball coming from the right flank with his left foot and fired a shot with his right. Even though the shot lacked pace, Srabon failed to keep it out.

Meanwhile, in the 76th minute, Bangladesh’s Hamza Choudhury had a golden opportunity to score.

Receiving a pass from a teammate, Hamza broke into the penalty area with only the Malaysian goalkeeper standing between him and the goal.

However, the Malaysian goalkeeper saved his initial shot when Hamza attempted a follow-up shot, the keeper blocked it again, conceding a corner.
