Dhaka WASA honours ideal customers from low-income communities to promote sustainable access to safe water

City Desk :

To advance Bangladesh’s progress toward achieving SDG 6, safe water and sanitation for all by 2030, Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Dhaka Wasa), with the support of WaterAid Bangladesh and Dushtha Shasthya Kendra (DSK), continues to expand access to safe, legal water connections for low-income residents living in the informal settlements of Dhaka.

The introduction of Dhaka WASA’s Citizen Charter has significantly accelerated the process of providing legal water connections to underserved communities, enabling thousands of families to obtain formal access and contribute to increased institutional revenue through regular bill payment.

As part of these ongoing efforts, Dhaka WASA, DSK, and WaterAid Bangladesh jointly organised the “ideal customer recognition ceremony 2025” on Sunday, 14 December 2025, at 10:30 AM at the Buriganga Hall of the Wasa Bhaban in Kawran Bazar. Engr. Md Abdus Salam Bapari, Managing Director of Dhaka Wasa, attended the ceremony as Chief Guest.

Special guests included Md Amirul Islam, Deputy Managing Director (Human Resource & Administration); Md Mijanul Hoque, Hasin Jahan, Country Director of WaterAid Bangladesh; and Dr Dibalok Singha, Executive Director of DSK. Representatives from government agencies, non-government organisations, community-based organisations, and the awardees themselves were present.
