Sept exports rise 8.54pc to $3.94b
Bangladesh’s merchandise exports rose 8.54% year-on-year to $3.94 billion in September 2026, driven mainly by stronger ready-made garment (RMG) shipments and solid growth in several major non-RMG sectors, according to the latest data from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
Export earnings were $3.63 billion in September last year, meaning shipments increased by around $310 million in a year.
September marked the second consecutive month of export growth, while the country’s cumulative export earnings during the first three months of the current fiscal year increased 6.34% year-on-year.
The RMG sector, which accounts for the majority of Bangladesh’s merchandise exports, recorded strong growth in September.
RMG exports rose 8.56% year-on-year to $3.08 billion, compared with $2.84 billion in the same month last year. Several major non-RMG sectors also performed strongly during the month.
Exports of leather and leather products increased 20.19%, while jute and jute goods shipments grew 22.72% year-on-year. Home textile exports rose 13.52%, while light engineering products recorded growth of 3.76%.
The strongest growth among the major export sectors came from pharmaceuticals, with exports surging 64.33% year-on-year in September, according to EPB data.
The latest figures indicate a recovery in export performance after weaker earnings earlier in the fiscal year, with consecutive monthly growth providing a boost to overall export receipts.
