Rising concerns over Khaleda’s health
Staff Reporter :
A five member specialised Chinese medical has joined in the efforts of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia’s treatment as her health deteriorated further on Sunday night.
Khaleda Zia has been receiving intensive care at Evercare Hospital since her admission on November 23.
She is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital’s Coronary Care Unit (CCU) for multiple complications involving her liver, kidneys, and heart.
Her condition worsened on Sunday night, leading doctors to place her on ventilator support.
A five-member team of Chinese specialists arrived in Dhaka on Monday to support the ongoing medical procedures.
The delegation met with the hospital’s medical board, reviewed Khaleda Zia’s health status, and held detailed consultations with local physicians on the required medical interventions.
According to Dr Shahabuddin Talukder, head of the medical board and cardiologist, the main group of specialists may arrive later depending on how her condition progresses.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir confirmed that Khaleda Zia remains in a highly critical state, with both local and foreign doctors working jointly on her treatment.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi urged the public not to pay attention to rumours or misleading claims about her health, stressing that she is undergoing intensive treatment at Evercare Hospital.
Speaking at a prayer event in Mohammadpur, Rizvi described Khaleda Zia as a “beloved leader of the nation,” recalling her personal sufferings, including the loss of her son in captivity and years of political persecution.
“Despite conspiracies and attempts to force her away from her country, she stood firm. Today, the entire nation is praying for her,” he said.
BNP Vice-Chairman Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan earlier confirmed that Khaleda Zia had been placed on ventilator support after her condition turned critical.
The party also announced that all official health updates will be released only by Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, a member of the BNP National Standing Committee. BNP has appealed to the nation to pray for her recovery and refrain from spreading unverified information.
Meanwhile, Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul commented on the potential return of BNP Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman, stating that there are no legal restrictions preventing him from coming back to Bangladesh.
He said the decision ultimately lies with Tarique Rahman, noting, “This is a deeply personal matter. As a son, he knows best when to return and what steps to take.”
