Sylhet-2 Constituency: BNP’s stronghold Jamaat attempt to win

Candidates from different political parties have intensified the election campaign in Sylhet-2 (Bishwanath-Osmaninagar) constituency around the upcoming 13th National Parliament election.
Leaders of various political parties in this expatriate-dominated constituency are roaming around and preparing themselves for the upcoming ballot war. The BNP and Jamaat, as the major parties are participating in the election.
In addition, candidates of various Islamic parties are roaming the fields, ghats and markets to fight for their party symbols.
After much drama in this constituency, BNP has finally announced Tahsina Rushdir Luna (with the symbol of a sheaf of rice), the wife of missing BNP leader M. Ilias Ali, as its candidate.
After a long time, the Trinamool BNP leaders and cadres are excited to have a party candidate in this seat.
Iliyas’ wife Luna is roaming around the entire seat with the announcement of completing the unfinished work of Iliyas Ali. Iliyas is continuously working to capture the entire voting field using his emotions.
He is also keen to restore this seat, which is known as the base of BNP, and give it to Begum Khaled Zia.
Meanwhile, with the elections ahead, Jamaat has announced Professor Abdul Hannan, Naib-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Sylhet District South Jamaat, as the party candidate.
Since announcing his candidacy, he – Abdul Hannan, a gentleman, educated and industrial entrepreneur from Sylhet, has been holding yard meetings in Gramganj (with the beard symbol).
Local leaders and activists are quite active with Abdul Hannan as the sole candidate of Jamaat-e-Islami.
He is regularly conducting mass contacts, road meetings and activities with local leaders and activists.
Jamaat’s strong organizational structure in Osmaninagar Upazila, in particular, has given momentum to their campaign.
Among those seeking nomination for this seat, Khilafat Majlis Central Joint Secretary General Mohammad Muntasir Ali (clock symbol) is in discussion.
He is also spending his time busy trying to capture the field ahead of the election.In this seat, there is a heat among the local people in support of Islamic parties ahead of the election.
In this seat, there are basically three names on people’s lips. Ilyas’ wife Luna, Professor Abdul Hannan or Muntasir Ali, who will be the next member of parliament in this seat is being discussed throughout the entire seat.
In addition, among the Islamic parties, Maulana Hossain Ahmed, vice-president of the UK branch of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam organization, Maulana Mohammad Amir Uddin, president of the Bishwanath Upazila branch of the Islamic Movement Organization, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis nominated candidate Dr. Mufti Hafiz Lutfur Rahman Qasimi, UK expatriate Barrister Abdus Shahid.
UK expatriate candidate from the newly registered party Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), Rotarian Misbah Uddin, convener of the Sylhet district branch of the Bangladesh Aam Jangan Party, and Zaman Siddiqui, leader of the People’s Rights Council, are being strongly rumored to be candidates.
Although none of them have officially declared their candidacy yet, discussions are underway among voters about potential candidates.
BNP’s internal disputes in Sylhet-2 constituency and Jamaat’s strong position – all together, the electoral field here is now hot and curious. Voters will have to wait a few more days to find out whether Luna or some other force will make a surprise appearance.
