131 AL men held over flash processions

Police have detained 131 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated bodies in Dhaka over the past 24 hours for allegedly participating in sudden flash processions across the capital.

According to a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) press release issued on Thursday, the arrests were made in coordinated drives across several police stations.

Breakdown of arrests includes: six from Uttara East, two from Uttara West, 24 from Gulshan, four from Khilkhet, three
from Cantonment, six each from Dhanmondi and New Market, three from Shahbagh, eight from Mohammadpur, one from Hatirjheel, six from Paltan, and 40 from Motijheel. Additionally, the Detective Branch (DB) Wari detained 22 more individuals.

The DMP said legal action is being taken against all those arrested in connection with the banned party’s unauthorised processions.
