Garment sector will lag behind if design is not diversified: Mayor Shahadat

Garment sector of Bangladesh will lag behind if design is not diversified, said Mayor of Chattagram City Corporation (CCC) and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Premier University Dr. Shahadat Hossain.

He made this comment as the chief guest at the freshmen ceremony of the Fashion Design and Technology Department of Premier University on Monday (May 26). He said, if we want to survive in the international market, there is no alternative to modern and creative fashion design in our garment industry.

In today’s world, the garment sector is not only dependent on production, it also depends on aesthetics and diversity. The design must be of international standard – which will not only increase exports but also create employment. We must bring such innovations that will make us known as a brand in the global market. The program was attended by the special guests of the Vice-Chancellor of Premier University, Professor SM Noshrul Qadir, Managing Director of KDS Group, Salim Rahman, Chairman of Halda Group, Sarwar Alamgir, Registrar of Premier University, Mohammad Iftekhar Monir, Sadat Zaman Khan of American Corner-Chittagong, Panel Lawyer of Chattagram City Corporation (CCC), Md. Rezaul Karim Roni, Former Director of BGMEA, Khandaker Belayet Hossain and Fashion Designer of Shreya Boutique, Monidipa Das. Chairman of the department, Sanjay Kumar Das, presided over the program.
