Workshop held to enhance police skills in road crash prevention

International organization Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) has trained 76 officers of the Chattagram Metropolitan Police (CMP) to enhance their skills in road crash prevention.
On the first day of the two-day workshop, one batch was trained on ‘Speed, a major risk factor in road crashes’ and on the second day, the other batch was trained on ‘Road Crash Investigation’. GRSP conducted the workshop on May 19 and 20 as part of the activities of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS).
In the workshop, police officers learned about the role of law enforcement in road crash prevention, the role of high vehicle speeds in crashes, the importance of speed control, speed control technology and techniques, and safe management of roadside checkpoints, etc.
During this time, they also learned how to use speed cameras. In the second day of the workshop, they learned about proper investigation methods for road crashes and how to take steps to prevent future crashes by applying the knowledge gained from the investigation.
At the same time, they gained a proper understanding of evidence collection from the scene, capturing images of the incident, analyzing evidence, etc. GRSP Asia-Pacific Manager Brett Herman and Senior Road Policing Advisor Dennis Watson conducted the workshop.
The training workshop was inaugurated by CMP Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Asfiquzzaman Akhter, BPM. 36 traffic sergeants, sub-inspectors, police inspectors, assistant police commissioners and additional deputy police commissioners were present on the first day and 40 on the second day.
At the end of the workshop, Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Asfiquzzaman Akhter, BPM handed over certificates to the participants.
Among others, BIGRS Chattagram Enforcement Coordinator Kazi Helal Uddin, Surveillance Coordinator Kazi Saifun Newaz and Communication Officer Mahamudul Hasan were present at the event.
