Orthopedic institution in each division
After liberation of Bangladesh 48 years have passed, during these years general medical treatment facilities have expanded continuously.
Government has decided to set up and operate at least one government medical college and hospital in all 64 districts. It is a laudable decision of the government.
Following the decision one after another medical college and hospital are being established in districts where there was no medical college.
But in the arena of orthopedic medical treatment no significant improvement in respect of quality and quantity has been achieved yet.
The disabled hospital in Dhaka and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahaman Medical University are imparting orthopedic medical education, which is very insignificant in relation to 165 million populations.
Moreover, people have little confidence in the quality of available orthopedic treatment now. Moneyed men go abroad for orthopedic medical treatment when required.
Those who cannot afford foreign treatment suffer much. Some go to unqualified indigenous so called doctors for orthopedic treatment and turned to permanently disable that is not desirable at all.
Thousands of road accidents take place in the country, which cause injuries that needed quality orthopedic treatment.
Other accidents also cause patients that need quality orthopedic medical treatment. Government has to ensure orthopedic quality medical treatment is available and affordable to mass people.
A special project may be assumed urgently to set up one modern orthopedic medical institution in each administrative division in the country. Initially, stage teachers may be appointed from friendly countries for imparting orthopedic medical treatment in those institutions.
I would like to urge the government to take a five year project to introduce orthopedic medical education in each administrative division. It would be a milestone in the arena of medical treatment in Bangladesh that the government desires.
