Shortage of kits, seats in hospitals over excess patients

Some 22 dengue patients were admitted to Hospitals in Bagerhat during the last 24 hours and out of them 19 patients were admitted to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital and the rest 3 were admitted to Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex, according to a delayed report received here.
Besides one Shahrul Sardar (45) of village Aruadanga under Fakirhat Upazila (in Bagerhat district) died of dengue on Sept 8.
On the other hand, 2 more persons were expired in July and August in the Upazila.
Dr. JalalUddin Ahmed, Civil Surgeon of Bagerhat confirmed the report.
The CS added, the dengue position in the district is over all good. But the dengue position in Fakirfhat Upazila is a bit critical.
In spite of that the position is not ot control. The CS added, only some 3 person died of dengue in the Upazila during the lat 3 months.
On the other hand,some 179 patients of the Upazila were given treatment during the period from the month of June to so far.
It is learnt from the statistics department of the Upazila Health Complex that every day more than one hundred persons come to the Health Complex from the different places of the Upazila after being attacked with high fever accompanied with other symptoms of various diseases to take treatment.
According to the source in the last one week alone some 2 thousand 8 hundred 39 patients took treatment as the outdoor patients while some 4 hundred 25 patients took treatment as the emergent patients.
Most of the patients attacked with high fever accompanied with pains in the body and other symptoms.
On the other hand, more than hundred patients come to the private clinics and hospitals after being attacked with high fever accompanied with other symptoms every day.
But the patients and their relatives are in great troubles as there are no kits in the Upazila Health Complex to identify the dengue patients.
So, the suffering patients and their relatives strongly urged upon the Govt.
to supply the required numbers of kits to the Upazila Health Complex without any delay.
It is learnt from the Heath Complex that only some 80+80 kits were supplied to the Health Complex in the months of July and August by the Health department. But those kits were exhausted within a few days alone.
The Upazila Public Health Department, Fakirhat told, demand slips wanting kits were sent the concerned authorities more than once.
But no kits were supplied to the Health Complex till the September 08, 2023.
Dr, Shishir Bosu, Residential Medical Officer of the Upazila Health Complex, only 6 to 7 per cent identified dengue patients is admitted to the Hospital.
But according to him, the per cent of dengue patients in the Upazila is more than that.
Unfortunately there are no kits in the Health Complex to identify the dengue patients.
After identifying the dengue patients in private clinics and Hospitals the patients are admitted to the Upazila Health Complex.
But for want of sufficient wards for dengue patients they are being given treatment in the general beds.
He added, 90 per cent dengue patients are taking treatment as the outdoor patients and they are taking treatments in their respective residents.
Madukhali (Faridpur)
Correspondent adds: The number of dengue patients has started increasing in Faridpur’s Madhukhali for the past 15 days.
In the last 24 hours, 104 dengue patients have been admitted to the hospital in Madhukhali.
The total number of patients in the 31-bed hospital is shown on Wednesday.
Out of the total number of patients in the 31-bed hospital, 145 are dengue patients.
A total of 809 patients have received treatment at Madhukhali Upazila Health Complex till Wednesday (September 13).
Among them, 104 people are admitted to the hospital. 40 people have been referred to Faridpur.
The rest have recovered and returned home. Among the referred patients with Madhukhali, three deaths have been reported in Dhaka.
On Wednesday (September 13) afternoon at Madhukhali Upazila Health Complex, it was seen that the designated units for dengue treatment have been placed on the 3rd and 4th floor of the hospital.
Patients are admitted to the balcony in its bay.
Patients are receiving treatment by pulling mosquito nets.
Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Yusuf Ali said that dengue patients are increasing every day in our hospital.
Hundreds of patients are being admitted to the 31-bed hospital every day. We cannot accommodate.
We may be forced to stop accepting patients at any time.
On Wednesday, more than a hundred dengue patients were admitted.
There are 145 patients admitted today. As the hospital is adjacent to the highway and specialist doctors are providing good treatment here, patients are coming daily from nearby upazila.
A junior medicine consultant here. Mustafa Arif is giving separate treatment to dengue patients at the hospital.
We advise patients to consume saline water, canned water along with liquid food.
Apart from this, regular counseling is also being done along with the treatment of the patients.
Most of the dengue patients are returning home after recovery.
Those with more problems are being referred to Faridpur Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical College Hospital.
Due to patient pressure, we are not able to provide space in the hospital.
