Bepza installs 2 weighbridges at Dhaka EPZ

The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (Bepza) has installed two
modern weighbridges at Dhaka Export Processing Zone (EPZ) to improve
transparency, accountability and efficiency in import and export activities.
Bepza Executive Chairman Major
General Mohammad Moazzem Hossain inaugurated the weighbridges in the old and extension zones of Dhaka EPZ on Monday according to a media release.
Installed at the main gates of the two zones, the weighbridges will accurately measure and digitally record the weight of goods carried by containers, covered vans and other vehicles entering and leaving the zones.
Bepza said the system would strengthen the monitoring of goods transportation and commercial activities.
The weighbridges are expected to enhance transparency and accountability in measuring goods imported and exported under bonded facilities.
They will also improve the accuracy of information on goods entering and leaving the zones, help ensure the proper utilisation of imported raw materials and strengthen oversight of bonded activities.
Bepza said the system would contribute to maintaining discipline in commercial operations and safeguarding government revenue.
The authority is also installing similar weighbridges at Chattogram EPZ, Adamjee EPZ, Cumilla EPZ and Karnaphuli EPZ.
It plans to install weighbridges gradually across all zones under its management.
