Directors banning actress Chamak embarrasses TELEPAB and Actors Equity BD
Entertainment Report :
Rukaiya Jahan Chamak isthe actress of the small screen. Recently there were allegations of ‘misbehaviour’ against heron the shooting set. The actress also filed a complaint of sexual harassment against fellow actor Arosh Khan, which initially reached the police station.
Drama organisations cameforward to solve the issue. On August 13, three parents organisations – Director’s Guild, Actors Equity Bangladesh and Television and Digital Program Producers’ Associations of Bangladesh (TELEPAB) sat together to solve Chamak issue.
It was decided in the meeting that the behaviour of the actress Chamak to senior actor Fakhrul Bashar Masum, directorAdif Hasan along with the entire unit was the fault and the accusations made against Arosh Khan by the actress in various interviews later on are also baseless.
That’s why Chamak should apologise as a punishment as well as pay financial compensation to the director.
Director’s Guild was not satisfied with that verdict.
Their demand was to ban actress Chamak. So they didnot agree with the decision of Actors Equity and TELEPAB.
In a press conference on August 21, Director’s Guild announced that they have bannedChamak for three months with effect from September 1.About this announcement yesterday, 23 August, Actors Equity and TELEPAB have highlighted their position in a press release.
There are two organizations demanding that the directors banned Chamak, which embarrassed Actors Equity and TELEPAB.
They also mentioned that the matter is sad for the drama arena. According to the long notice, “The speech at the press conference of the Director’s Guild on August 21 has come to our attention, which surprised and shocked us.
This is not what we expect from a long-standing organisation, the Director’s Guild. Since the names of Actors Equity and TELEPAB were mentioned in the press conference, we haveto say a few things for contextual reasons, which we never wanted to say in public.”
“First, does the Director’s Guild have the right to ban an actor? If they wanted to instruct their members not to take Chamak in their works, they could have done so organisationally.
Was there any needto arrange a press conference! It is very common for a professional body to penalise artistes, crews or individuals of anyprofession other than its members.
If absolutely necessary, they can discuss with the experts of that profession.”
“The organisation is a court-martial, not a court of law. Members will fear, love and consider the organisation a safe haven. Some may make mistakes, may do injustice.
We will try to correct him, try to change the right path. But never choke.
Even if there is enough timeto correct the mistake, if no one is corrected, the situation may be harsh. Not before that.”
The announcement also said that the Director’s Guild heldan inter-organisational meeting among the Director’s Guild, Actors Equity BD and TELEPAB on the subject of actress Chamak in accordance with its press conference theory.
Various decisions werediscussed there. Restrictions were in between.
“But if the ban was given, the drama would have stopped.
Chamak has repented of her mistake by being sincere towards all the organisations and she has taken the punishment we have given her to her head.
Most importantly, the producer, director and artistes who complained were all satisfied with this decision.
The producer survived the financial loss. The director is unable to finish his drama. And the co-stars were also pleased to express their regret by Chamak.
What could be better than that?” Actors Equity also claimed that the Director’s Guild’s decision against the Chamak was personal to them.
“We have no involvement with this decision.
There is noprohibition against Chamak in our decision.”Finally, the notification signed by MSK Sanjid Khan Prince, Press and Publication Secretary of TELEPAB, and Pran Roy, Press and Publications Secretary of Actors Equity BD, mentioned, “For a long time, we all organisations have faced many big crises through mutual understanding. This situation is really sad and embarrassing in this little matter.”
However, there was no immediate comment from the Director’s Guild regarding the issues discussed.
