Residents suffering as box-culvert collapsed

The box culvert built on the Muslimpara Canal in Charkaua Union of Sadar Upazila in Barishal district has been laying in collapsed position for almost three years.
The residents of three villages of Charadi union of neighboring Bakerganj upazila also have suffering greatly for this.
It is known that the people of five villages of Charkaua, three villages of Charadi union including Ranirhat, Halta are traveling on this route.
Due to non-removal of the collapsed culvert and non-construction of new culverts for a long time, the public suffering has become increasingly evident. Several accidents have occurred.
The affected residents sought the intervention of the concerned senior officials to remove the collapsed culvert quickly and construct a new one.
Abdur Rahman, a local resident said that the box culvert was constructed about 12 years ago. In 2020, the soil of the road moved on both sides of the culvert due to the pressure of flood water. So in 2021, the box culvert collapsed into the canal due to flood waters.
A few years ago, with the help of the local UP chairman and LGED, traffic was arranged by temporarily placing some wood logs on collapsed culvert. Recently the middle of the alternative bridge made of wood has also collapsed.
Almost every day motorcyclists including school, college and madrasa students are getting into accidents while traveling over the alternative wooden bridge.
