BNP on Thursday accused the Awami League government of harassing the United States’ Ambassador Peter Haas in Dhaka on Wednesday.
“We regret the harassment incident which took place after US Ambassador Haas came out of missing BNP leader Sajedul Islam Sumon’s Shaheenbagh residence in Dhaka on Wednesday,” Emran Saleh Prince, BNP acting office secretary said.
The BNP leader said, “None in Bangladesh, even foreigners are now safe due to the sick politics under Awami League’s misrule. The government itself was involved in harassment of the US Ambassador,”Emran Saleh Prince said it while addressing a press conference at BNP central office at Naya Paltan in the capital on Thursday.
“We think the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader and Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen were involved with the incident of harassing the US ambassador as per their languages after the incident took place,” Emran Saleh said.
“Instigating their people, they sent them to Shaheenbagh to launch attack on Ambassador Haas’ flag carrying car. They also harassed the ambassador,” the BNP leader said. “Earlier, an attack was launched on US Ambassador Bernicat’s car in the capital’s Mohammadpur at the directive of the then government. None has forgotten it,” Prince said.
“We strongly condemn and protest the attack. The image of Bangladesh will be badly tarnished abroad due to the incident,” the BNP leader said. Emran Saleh said Moreover, the incident proves that there is no democracy, rule of law, and human rights in the country.
“The AL’s misrule which is going on in the country, will be exposed further, Prince said.
BNP Organising Secretary Abdus Salam Azad, Assistant Office Secretary Taiful Islam Tipu, among others, were present.
