Govt grades 12-20 are set to receive ration

The government has decided to introduce a rationing facility for officials and employees in government institutions falling within the 12th to 20th grades.

This initiative has been taken in response to rising commodity prices and the increasing cost of living.

The government believes that many low- and middle-income government employees are facing financial hardship due to inflation.

Many are suffering from mental distress caused by the burden of debt and loans, which is affecting the performance of their official duties.

Implementing the rationing facility is expected to alleviate this pressure and enhance the employees’ focus on their work.

The Finance Division and the Cabinet Division have consented to the proposal for introducing rationing benefits. In June, the Cabinet Division issued a directive to the Secretary of the Finance Division to take effective measures in this regard.

The letter instructs that a report on the progress be presented at a meeting with the Cabinet Division and the secretaries of the implementing ministries after three months. Additionally, the Cabinet Division must be kept informed of the monthly progress of the work.

Against the backdrop of rising inflation and the increasing cost of living in the country, the Deputy Commissioner of Pirojpur proposed introducing ration facilities for government employees in grades 12 through 20. This proposal was put forward during the Deputy Commissioners’ (DC) Conference held on May 3.

The proposal states that the cost of living for government employees has become burdensome due to price hikes and rising expenses. It notes that debt and financial liabilities are causing mental stress and hindering the performance of their duties.

Introducing ration benefits would alleviate pressure, simplify daily life, and allow employees to focus better on their duties. Therefore, the provision of ration benefits for employees in grades 12 through 20 could be considered.

The Cabinet Division has written to the Secretary of the Finance Division regarding the implementation of this proposal, which falls under the purview of the Finance Division.

The letter requests that the proposal be given serious consideration and that updates on the progress be provided. In other words, the process of extending ration benefits to government employees in grades 12 through 20 has commenced.

The Finance Division is required to inform the Cabinet Division-both by the 10th of each month and through quarterly meetings-regarding whether this measure will be implemented in the short, medium, or long term.

Md. Mamun, Deputy Secretary of the Field Administration Wing at the Cabinet Division, said, “The BG Press is currently working on publishing the development activities discussed at the DC Conference in book form.

These books will be distributed to the relevant officials. Secretaries of all ministries have been informed of their required actions via letter.

They have been instructed to submit progress reports on the implementation of these decisions to the Field Administration Wing of the Cabinet Division by the 10th of every month.”

Experts believe this proposal could bring relief to low- and middle-income government employees.

According to them, such an initiative would also set a positive precedent for low-income groups. However, ensuring proper planning, adequate budget allocation, and transparent management is crucial for the project’s implementation.
