Global cooperation vital for good governance

Sufi Sagar Psalms, Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Humanist Party (BHP) and a proponent of the World Sovereign Government doctrine, has called for stronger international cooperation, environmental stewardship and a renewed commitment to universal human dignity as essential pillars of good governance.

In a statement titled “One Humanity, One Earth, One Shared Future” issued on Monday, Psalms said every individual is born with equal dignity and rights, irrespective of nationality, religion, race, ethnicity, language, gender, caste or social status.

“No child chooses where they are born, which religion they inherit, what language they speak, or which nationality appears on their passport. Yet every child enters this world with the same human dignity and the same right to live in peace,” the statement said.

Psalms said these principles are reflected in the international human rights framework, which recognises the equal dignity and rights of all members of the human family.

He also stressed the importance of protecting the Earth’s shared natural resources, saying the atmosphere, oceans, rivers, forests, mountains, biodiversity and climate form the common foundation of human civilisation and should be managed responsibly for the benefit of both present and future generations.

According to the statement, while international law recognises the sovereign rights of states over their natural resources, it also acknowledges the collective responsibility of the international community to safeguard the global environment and promote sustainable development.

Highlighting challenges such as climate change, environmental degradation, inequality, armed conflict and humanitarian crises, Psalms said these issues increasingly extend beyond national borders and require stronger international cooperation and coordinated action.

He argued that opportunities and security should not be determined by the circumstances of a person’s birth, but should instead be guided by universal principles that uphold dignity, opportunity, security and hope for all.

The statement called on governments, international organisations, civil society and citizens worldwide to deepen cooperation in promoting peace, protecting universal human rights, respecting cultural diversity and ensuring the responsible management of the Earth’s natural resources for the common good.

Psalms expressed hope that greater global solidarity and a stronger commitment to universal human dignity would contribute to building a more peaceful, just and sustainable future.
