Rare spice of venomous lizards recovered

A rare spice of venomous lizards locally known as ‘Takkhak’ was recovered from a kitchen belonging to one Md. Kamal Goldar of village Madhyagram within Mithakhali Union Parishad under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat district in the evening of Wednesday by the forest guards of Sundarbans and it was released in the forest within Katakhali Patrol outpost (forest station office) in the Eastern Division of Sundarbans (in Bagerhat district) in the following morning, according to a report received here. It is learnt from the locals that on Wednesday in the morning Nilufar Begum, wife of Md. Kamal Goldar found the lizard on the shelf of firewood in the kitchen. Being informed of the matter a group dishonest people appeared there and tried to allure the husband and the wife to sell the lizard at high price to them (dishonest people). But they denied to sell it. On the contrary, they (husband and wife) informed the officials of Katakhali forest outpost of the matter. The forest guard reached the spot on the day in the evening (at about 8 pm), recovered the lizard from there, took it to the office and released the same in the forest in the following morning. Md. Shahjahan, Forest Station Officer of Katakhali told, the venomous lizard is nine inches in length weighing 350 grams.

Huge Polythene bags seized in Kishoreganj

Department of Environment (DoE) and District Administration have conducted drives on Tuesday evening seized 1000 kgs of banned polythene bags from one shops at Gazi market,Bara Baxter in Kishoreganj town. Senior Assistant Commissioner & Executive Magistrate of Kishoreganj Collectorate Sultana Rajia led the drive aided by the members of Department of Environment (DoA). DoE source said, acting on a tip-off, the team raided the Maa -Baba Enterprise at Bara Bazar , Gazi market area at Tuesday evening and seized the banned 1000 kgs poly bags worth about Tk,3.50 lakh. The mobile court also fined each Tk 5 thousand, said Noyon Roy , Inspector in DoE. Maa- Baba Enterprise selling banned polythene since long.
