A team of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in separate drives arrested two persons, including an Algerian national, over the killing of Zubair Ahmed in the capital on Friday and Saturday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Abu Ubaid Kadir, 46, a football trainer, hailing from Algeria and Ismail Hossain, friend of Zubair and a key suspect in the incident.
DB Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sheikh Nazmul Alam told a press briefing at Media Centre on Minto Road in city on Sunday that a special team of police conducted a drive following secret information and arrested Ismail from Uttara on Friday afternoon.
Gathering information from Ismail, police arrested Kadir on the following day.
Zubair’s mother Dilara Begum registered a case with the Uttara East Police Station over the incident, he said.
The police official said that both the arrested persons are being interrogated in this connection.
Md Iqbal Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Uttara police said, “The police scanned the mobile phone of Kadir and found text messages sent to teenage boys in obnoxious language.”
He said police suspected that Kadir enticed teenagers to join him in water bodies, especially swimming pools.
Uttara East Police Station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) and investigating officer of the case Sheikh Rassel Kabir said that police are looking into the incident.
Earlier, police recovered the body of Zubair from a pond at Uttara Section-4 on October 5.
