Sedition case against ex-DUCSU VP Nur for derogatory remarks

A sedition case has been filed in Brahmanbaria against Nurul Haque Nur, former vice-president (VP) of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU), for making provocative and derogatory remarks over the government’s several issues during a Facebook live session recently.
Rabiul Hossain Rubel, president of the district Chhatra League, filed the case in the court of Brahmanbaria Senior Judicial Magistrate Ayesha Begum on Sunday.
According to the case statement, Nurul Haque Nur appeared on Facebook live on December 16 night an made “derogatory remarks” over the government and several government institutions. He also termed Awami League as follower of anti-Bangabandhu’s ideology, Chhatra League activists as ‘Kulangar’ and also Bangladesh government as the foreign flattery one.
Besides, Nur termed the Election Commission as “useless commission”. Even the case statement also said Nur had mentioned the plaintiff’s name on Facebook live and made indecent remarks about him over social media.
The plaintiff’s lawyer Ekram Hossain told media that court took the case into cognisance.
The magistrate will hear the case later, plaintiff’s lawyer Ekram Hossain added.
