IUB Prof Shah Amran appointed BAC member

Dr Md Shah Amran, Professor of Pharmacy at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), has been appointed a full-time member of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) for a four-year term under the Bangladesh Accreditation Council Act, 2017.

The Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education issued the appointment order on July 26, 2026, naming Prof Shah Amran as one of three members appointed to the council.

Prof Amran previously served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Dhaka before his retirement.

He obtained his Bachelor and Master of Pharmacy degrees, both with first class results, from the University of Dhaka and later earned a PhD from the University of Yamanashi in Japan.

Prof Amran began his academic career in 1996 as a Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Rajshahi.

Before entering academia, he worked in the pharmaceutical industry, serving as a production pharmacist at Beximco Pharmaceuticals and Unique Pharmaceuticals, and as a quality assurance officer at Jayson Pharmaceuticals.

A noted researcher in pharmaceutical sciences, Prof Amran has published more than 175 research articles in peer-reviewed national and international journals. He has also authored 16 books and five book chapters.

He has supervised 23 M.Pharm, five M.Phil and six PhD researchers during his academic career.
Prof Amran joined IUB as a professor in 2025.

The Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) is an autonomous government body responsible for ensuring quality assurance and accreditation in the country’s higher education sector.

Established under the Bangladesh Accreditation Council Act, 2017, the council evaluates and accredits universities and academic programmes based on national and international standards.
