Nasim seeks continued Gavi assistance for immunization

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim called upon Gavi, the global vaccine alliance, to continue its assistance to Bangladesh for attaining 100 percent success in immunization programmes.
He made the call on Friday at a meeting on Gavi strategy for South Asia on the occasion of the 32nd conference of South East Asian health ministers under World Health Organization (WHO) at Sonargaon Hotel in the city.
Mohammad Nasim said bringing 82 percent children under immunization coverage is a big success for Bangladesh. This is the highest rate of success in the region, he added.
Because of the success in immunization programme the country attained MDG-4 for fall in child mortality rate, Nasim said.
He also said Bangladesh won UN Award in 2010. Besides, the country also won Gavi awards in 2009 and 2012.
The health minister reiterated the determination to further improve quality of immunization programme and take it forward.
He sought cooperation of Gavi and other countries of the region in this regard.
Gavi Alliance Country Program Division Managing Director Hinda Khatib Othman made a power-point presentation on the activities of Gavi.
