Trivedi leaves after 3 key meetings

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi left Dhaka for New Delhi on Monday after holding three high-level meetings with Bangladesh’s top officials within 24 hours, in what diplomatic circles view as further consultations amid efforts to keep bilateral engagement constructive.

Trivedi met Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman on Sunday at the State
Guest House Padma before holding separate courtesy meetings with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed at the Secretariat on Monday.

“Yes, he left Dhaka for New Delhi (on Monday),” a diplomatic source told UNB, describing the visit as “preplanned” but offering no further details.

During his meeting with Tarique, Trivedi conveyed greetings from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed New Delhi’s intention to work with Bangladesh’s government and people in a “positive, constructive and forward-looking” manner.

The two sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and discussed ways to further strengthen Bangladesh-India relations through a people-centric approach.

In his meeting with Home Minister Salahuddin, the Indian envoy discussed areas of common interest, including security cooperation, as well as ways to advance bilateral relations.

Trivedi conveyed India’s willingness to expand people-centric cooperation across various sectors based on mutual interest, mutual benefit and mutual sensitivities.

His return to New Delhi comes as Dhaka and New Delhi seek to maintain diplomatic engagement and address a number of outstanding issues through dialogue.
