24-hour watch in snatching hotspots
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has ordered a zero-tolerance approach to drug-related crimes and round-the-clock surveillance in snatching-prone areas across the capital.
He issued the directives at the DMP’s monthly crime review meeting for July 2026 at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh on Thursday. The DMP chief instructed police officials to conduct regular drives against drug dealers and their associates while strengthening intelligence operations to curb drug-related crimes.

He also directed the relevant officials to ensure that no illegal activities take place at hotels and spa centres within their respective police station areas.
Police must regularly monitor such establishments and take immediate legal action whenever information about illegal activities is received, he said.
The commissioner ordered the Criminal Division, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit and Detective Branch (DB) to maintain a 24-hour field presence in identified snatching-prone areas.
He also called for stronger intelligence surveillance, patrols and targeted operations in crime-prone areas, stressing coordinated efforts to bring offenders to justice.
The DMP chief further directed the officer-in-charge of the concerned police station and senior officials of the Criminal Division to visit the scene of every reported case.
He stressed the need for on-site inspections, proper evidence collection and thorough assessment of the circumstances surrounding each incident to ensure effective investigations and uncover the facts.
Mosleh urged field-level police officials to perform their duties with the highest degree of professionalism, responsibility and dedication to control crime and ensure the safety and security of city residents.
Senior DMP officials, including Additional Police Commissioners, Joint Police Commissioners, Deputy Police Commissioners, Additional Deputy Police Commissioners, Assistant Police Commissioners, officers-in-charge of all DMP police stations and officials of different ranks, attended the meeting.
