Zia involved in August 15 conspiracy: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina remarked that the founder of BNP and late president Ziaur Rahman was involved in the conspiracy of August 15 in 1975 in which Bangabandhu and most of his family members were assassinated. The premier came up with the remark while addressing a programme on the occasion of National Mourning Day at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in city on Saturday afternoon. “Col Faruque (one of the killers of Bangabandhu) said that Bangabandhu was so popular that there was no way without killing Bangabandhu. They went to Ziaur Rahman to get his support before killing Bangabandhu when Ziaur Rahman gave such a signal that he would be with them,” she said referring to Lt Col (retd) Syed Faruque Rahman`s interview with BBC`s Anthony Mascarenhas after the assassination. She also claimed that Ziaur Rahaman did not allow her to come back to home after the assassination of Bangabandhu. “Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman sacrificed everything for the sake of the people of Bangladesh. But the culprits behind August 15 conspiracy tried to wipe out the state and conviction of Independence by killing him,” she added. –risingbd.com
