DAM president calls to donate for disadvantaged children

“Well-off people have been requested to provide their financial support, including Zakat, for rehabilitation of poor orphan and street children in the country”, Dhaka Ahasania Mission (DAM) President Kazi Rafiqul Alam came up with the appeal while addressing at a press conference at DAM Bhaban in the city’s Dhanmondi on Saturday.
DAM has opened a centre at Paikpara, Mirpur in the city where orphan and street children, aged 0-5, are being provided with necessary rehabilitation. We have launched a ‘Children City’ in Panchagarh where disadvantaged children are receiving shelter, including education and dining, at free of cost, said Alam.
“The initiative is the first ever and on a large scale in the country. It is not possible for DAM alone to carry forward the activities as we have limited resources. Hence, we are facing trouble in carrying out the humanitarian activities. If rich people come forward with their Zakat and other financial support to us, it would be easy for us to continue the works smoothly”.
The DAM President said, “With the financial support of the countrymen, we can free the disadvantaged children from the inhuman condition and turn them into human resources, giving them a better life”.
At present there are a total of 11,44,754 street children in the country. Of them, about 4.50 lakh live in the Dhaka city. The number of disadvantaged children is increasing day by day mainly due to poverty and social discrimination. The poor children live here and there in inhuman condition, which is violation of human rights.
Programme Manager of DAM Shishu Nagori Jahangir Hossain and Director of Public Relations Section of DAM Ali Reza and others spoke at the press conference.
