Son arrested over parents’ killing in Ctg

Police arrested a man on Saturday for allegedly killing his parents with a pair of scissors at their home in Chattogram’s Anwara upazila.

The incident occurred around 2:30pm in the Purba Guzra area of Haildhar union.
The deceased Kalpana Das Gupta, 55, and her husband, Swapan Das Gupta, 70. Their son, Romi Das Gupta, 30, was detained at the scene.

Chattogram Assistant Superintendent of Police Mahmudul Hasan said officers rushed to the house after receiving a call through the national emergency service.

Police found that Romi had allegedly attacked both his parents with a pair of scissors, he said.
Kalpana died at the scene, while Swapan was taken to Anwara Upazila Health Complex in critical condition. The attending physician declared him dead.

Police said Kalpana sustained injuries to several parts of her body, while Swapan also suffered multiple wounds.

The motive behind the killings was not immediately known. Police said preliminary information raised questions about possible drug use or mental health concerns, but neither had been confirmed.

“The actual motive will be known after interrogation and investigation,” Mahmudul said.

The bodies were being sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, while legal proceedings were underway.
