BNP wants new CEC to step aside
Staff Reporter :
The BNP claimed on Friday that the new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda had the blessings of the ruling Awami League.
“After getting appointment, KM Nurul Huda in his statements reiterated his commitment to the ruling party. Now none will believe that the election under him would be fair. So, it will be better for him if he steps down from the office of the CEC,” said BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a press briefing at the party’s Naya Paltan office in the capital.
Rizvi said, “KM Nurul Huda cherishes the spirit of ruling Awami League more than what Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad, the outgoing Chief Election Commissioner, had.”
And, therefore, any election under the new commission will be a partial and voter-less one to help prevail the misrule.
In another context, Rizvi hit out at the comments of the Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, who on Thursday reminded the leaders and the workers of the BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) that the party’s existence would be at stake in case of repeating the politics of boycotting Parliamentary election, as done on January 5. a
“On behalf of the BNP, I want tell the AL general secretary to convince his Prime Minister of holding the polls under a neutral government. Only a fair election will decide which party will survive in political arena,” Rizvi said, adding time will say which party-AL or BNP- made mistake
BNP central leader Khairul Kabir Khokon, Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu, Abdus Salam Azad and Munir Hossain, among others, were present.
