Minar denied bail in Ekram murder case

UNB, Dhaka :
The High Court on Wednesday denied bail to BNP leader Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury Minar in Fulgazi upazila parishad chairman Ekramul Haque killing case.
An HC bench comprising Justice Md Abu Zafor Siddique and Justice Khizir Ahmed Choudhury rejected the petition considering it as not placed before the bench.
Earlier, on July 31 this year, Minar’s lawyer filed a bail petition before the HC as the Appellate Division stayed the bail petition of Minar last year.
On July 20, 2015, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court stayed the bail of Minar and asked him to surrender before the trial court within two weeks.
Minar was freed from jail on bail on July 17, 2015.
A team of Detective Branch of police arrested Minar from Kachukhet near Dhaka Cantonment in the capital on May 27 in connection with the killing of Fulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haque, also local Awami League leader.
Ekram, president of Fulgazi upazila unit of Awami League, came under attack by miscreants in front of Bilasi Cinema Hall on May 20, 2014 on his way to Fulgazi upazila headquarters from his Masterpara residence in the Feni district town.
The miscreants intercepted his microbus and fired at him from a very close range and then set fire to the vehicle. They left the scene after confirming Ekram’s death on the spot.
Ekram’s brother Rejaul Haque Jasim filed a case against Minar and 35 unidentified people with Feni Model Police Station on May 21, 2014.
