Bumper chili crop brings joy to Hossainpur farmers

Kishoreganj Correspondent :

This year, chili cultivation in Hossainpur Upazila of Kishoreganj has seen unprecedented success. Among the green fields, the red and green chili plants seem to paint the dreams of farmers.

Not only has the yield been bumper, but the market price has also nearly doubled compared to last year, bringing relief and smiles to farmers’ faces. Initially, farmers were apprehensive due to losses in chili cultivation last year, but this season, it seems that destiny has blessed them with success.

According to the Upazila Agriculture Office, chili was cultivated on 210 hectares of land in Hossainpur last year. This season, the area has increased to 216 hectares. Experts say favorable weather, relatively low pest and disease incidence, and improved care following agricultural department guidance have contributed to this success.

Market analysis shows that last year, the price of one maund of raw chili ranged from 1,500 to 2,500 Taka. This year, the same chili is selling for 3,500 to 5,500 Taka nearly double the previous price. Despite slightly higher production costs, the profit margins have been satisfactory, leaving farmers very happy.

Local farmers shared that due to the good yield this season, they are able to repay loans and earn extra income. Some are planning to renovate their tin-roofed houses, while others are no longer worried about their children’s education expenses. The red hue of the chilies has brought a new ray of hope into their lives.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Sheikh Mohammad Mohsin said that if the weather remains favorable and market prices stay stable, chili cultivation in Hossainpur is likely to expand further.
He also assured that regular support and guidance for farmers will continue.
