Dhaka imports 8,000tons of diesel from India

Bangladesh has received a fresh consignment of 8,000 tonnes of diesel from India through the Bangladesh-India Friendship Pipeline, officials said on Saturday.

The shipment has already reached the Parbatipur depot of Padma Oil Company Limited and distribution is now underway. According to officials, pumping from India’s Numaligarh Refinery started at midnight on 7 April, with the full consignment arriving at the depot late Friday night.

Officials said diesel imports via the pipeline are ongoing, and if conditions remain favourable, another 5,000 tonnes is expected to be imported from 17 April.

Depot authorities confirmed receipt of the shipment and noted that current diesel stock levels are sufficient.

Earlier, Bangladesh imported 10,000 tonnes in two batches on 11 and 23 March, followed by 7,000 tonnes on 1 April. With the latest delivery, total imports from India have reached 25,000 tonnes in four phases.

Since 2021, Bangladesh has been regularly importing refined diesel through the pipeline from the Numaligarh Refinery in Assam.
